As a Computer Scientist within the Wetland & Aquatic Research Center, Coastal Research Assessment Center some of your specific duties will include:
Incumbent serves as a lead Computer Scientist at the Wetland and Aquatic Research Center's Lafayette campus. Duties of the incumbent may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Lead a sub-group or team of developers focused on development of web applications driven by tabular and geospatial databases. This involves guiding team members in using advanced computer science knowledge and experience to address challenges related to Earth sciences using existing or novel technology, computational theory, and data science. Additionally, this involves supporting the supervisor on maintaining USGS and cooperator science program activities. Serve as a Task Order Manager Representative for the WARC's support services and contract activities or as a Project Officer Representative on contracts related to projects undertaken by the WARC. Plan, lead, coordinate and participate in team activities such as software architecture, multi-language programming, unit testing, user interface design, software/hardware deployment and training. Team(s) led by the incumbent may include contractors, research associates, technicians, students and part-time aides. Employ computer science--computational theory, design patterns, programming language theory, etc.--to assist in the design of modeling frameworks, data management frameworks, computer simulations, mathematical models, complex data visualizations, and custom data collection and transmission interfaces as components of decision support systems. Publish findings addressing challenges related to data management, computation theory, data visualization, hardware performance, data acquisition, computer graphics, data transformation, and data standards generation and compliance. Adhere to existing, along with assisting in the development of new data, coding, and information sharing standards addressing biological, geomorphological, and hydrologic data challenges across the Gulf of Mexico. Assist in the development, review, and technical critique of decision support systems, software modeling frameworks, and data management/visualization tools. Work with cooperators and subject matter experts on science, resource management, and technology teams which will require the incumbent to drive and attend off-site meetings. Duties will increase in responsibility at the GS-13 level. One year of appropriate professional experience that is in or directly related to the duties of the position to be filled is qualifying if it is equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of such experience may include digital computer system design; system software organization, assembly and programming languages; and analysis, interpretation and evaluation of computer software data and techniques. Work generally has not required modification or adaptation of standard procedures, methods or techniques, and development has involved typical methods and techniques to address problems for which guidelines and precedents exist; and experience developing performance based scopes of work that describe tasks to be assigned to on-site contractors along with understanding and performing the duties of a Task Order Manager. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
