Health Technician

The lncumbent(s) will serve as a Health Care Technician and will be responsible to ensure they demonstrate courtesy and professionalism veterans, families, co-workers and staff; identify customer concerns and facilitate any necessary follow-up as needed to ensure satisfactory resolution; ability to operate computerized programs in order to enter and retrieve sensitive information; knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to be able to communicate effectively with both professional and non-professional employees In a variety of occupations and ability to work independently to service our veterans. The Technician performs technical work in support of the clinical staff. Performs and documents vital signs, simple neurological checks, height, weight, blood glucose testing, specimen collection, ie., stool, blood, urine, and sputum, etc. to assist in diagnostic screening for patients in multiple clinic settings. Performs phlebotomy services including processing and delivery of specimens, utilizing proper techniques, correct tubes, and accurate samples to ensure prompt processing of the specimen. The position will perform point of care testing, phlebotomy, accession specimens, and perform other procedures necessary to ensure appropriate specimen receipt. handling, and processing to ensure accurate, reliable laboratory results. Major duties and responsibilities Include but are not limited to:
Performing phlebotomy, following established procedures for identification, collection, labeling and processing; performing a limited amount of patient testing which Includes urine pregnancy testing. testing by finger stick; prepares specimen or patient for testing. prepares reagents, performs the test procedure, and verifies the ac.curacy of results and report the results in the computer system; performs established quality control procedures to check the accuracy and validity of the test results; prepares samples for testing In the various clinical laboratory sections, such as labeling, centrifugation, decanting, aliquotting. etc.; performs distribution, storage and delivery of supplies and other materials used for phlebotomy services; cleans and restocks the blood collection room and areas where collection room trays and equipment are stored; receives phlebotomy requests utilizing both manual and computerized logging methods; and performs other related duties as assigned. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Physical Requirements:
The work includes the rotation of tour assignments as necessary, also includes lifting, walking, pushing, stooping, reaching and standing. There Is a need to use proper body mechanics. A variety of mechanical equipment is available to assist in providing nursing care, which involves lifting, pushing etc. Work may require rotation to other than day tours and may include evenings, weekends and holidays. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
